Core Beliefs
and Policy Positions
PETER’s VISION
As a teacher, a core tenet of my classroom was the belief in empowering students to make connections, to see patterns, and to devise their own way of analyzing problems. Fundamental to that structure is a belief that each person can learn and make decisions for themselves when given proper support and structures. Each resident of our state does this everyday, from the mother balancing her family’s budget at the kitchen table to the small business owner considering how his decisions will impact his community. The people of Louisiana are capable of thinking about tough tradeoffs and alternate solutions. And you deserve a Senator who will ensure that your voices will be heard. Policymaking shouldn’t only be done by the rich and powerful behind closed doors.
Before we start crafting solutions, we have to agree on the problems. My approach to policy is rooted in non-negotiables, beliefs about a world that we must fight tirelessly and creatively to bring to life. In this platform, below each non-negotiable, we have a real problem. I don’t think there is a single or clear fix to most of the problems our state and country are facing today, but the work of politics is to find effective solutions from compromise. During this campaign and as your Senator, I commit to representing the values and advocating for the wellbeing of the people of Louisiana, above all else. I will listen to your needs and perspectives and be a committed partner as we define a path forward.
